Jeremy Corbyn has lost a non-binding no confidence motion, with more than 80% of MPs voting against him.

Labour MPs in the UK began voting in the non-binding secret ballot at 10am this morning.

The results show that 172 MPs voted in favour of the no-confidence motion with 40 against it, and a turnout of 95%.

Policital editor with Sky News, Faisal Islam said that there was a rush at the end of the voting period with several of Corbyn's supporters registering their vote in the House of Commons in a bid to send a message that he will run in a leadership election if challenged.

Jeremy Corbyn has been blamed by some supporters for a lacklustre EU referendum campaign. More than 40 Labour MPs on his front bench and in his shadow ministerial team have quit since the referendum result, saying they had no confidence in him as leader.

It is believed that Labour deputy leader Tom Watson and former shadow business secretary Angela Eagle have been meeting, and are the most likely pair to attempt a leadership challenge.

Corbyn's aides say he is willing to take part in a leadership contest as they believe he still has the backing of the majority of Labour members.

The voting is not binding on the Labour leader to stand down, but it will pile further pressure on him.
