Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane has criticised the attitude of some clubs over releasing players for internationals.

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren is keen for goalkeeper Rob Elliot not to be involved in the Boys in Green's Euro 2016 play-off with Bosnia-Herzegovina, although he played for his club at the weekend.

Keane says the general approach of teams to internationals does not impress him.

"International weeks coming up, it’s ironic that they all seem to get ruled out for 10-14 days. It's amazing. You ask any players that worked under me, I never had problems with players going for internationals. Never. I've never ruled them out for 10-14 days," he said, adding that "it’s happened with a few other club managers who have been international managers themselves".
