An Irish transgender woman says Caitlyn Jenner's story will give great encouragement to other people in her situation.

Vanity Fair magazine yesterday released details of their forthcoming cover featuring Caitlyn, who was formerly known as athlete and TV star Bruce Jenner.

The cover shot, taken by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, features Jenner in a strapless corset, legs crossed, sitting on a stool at her home in Malibu, California.

Caitlyn also started a new, record breaking Twitter account. She achieved the fastest time to reach one million followers, in four hours and three minutes: breaking a record set by Barack Obama two weeks ago.

Speaking on the account, Caitlyn Jenner said she's "so happy after such a long struggle" to be her true self.

Jenner's transition was revealed in a two-hour programme on ABC that was watched by 16.9 million viewers.

She told Diane Sawyer that "to all intents and purposes I am a woman" and said he had felt that way since childhood.

71-year-old Irish woman Claire transitioned in the 1970s.

Speaking to Shane Coleman on today's Pat Kenny Show, she has welcomed Caitlyn's news because it will help others:
