The ISPCA has rescued a foal that was found with a severely embedded collar in Trim, Co Meath.

ISPCA Inspector Elaine Reynolds investigated after a report was made to the National Animal Cruelty Helpline.

She discovered that the foal’s head collar was severely embedded across its nose and the back of its head.

The area was very infected and the foal was in need of veterinary attention.

The animal was brought to the ISPCA National Animal Centre to be seen by an equine vet.

The head collar was removed with extreme care - and he is now making good progress.

The ISPCA say his wounds are healing well, as investigations are continuing to trace his owner.

Inspector Reynolds said: "I was glad to have gotten to the foal in time before he suffered any further.

"This would have been very painful for him, and could have had serious consequences if he did not receive veterinary treatment in time.

"We are delighted with his quick recovery and hope to see him available for fostering soon."

The foal, now named Pitstop, is continuing his rehabilitation and will be available for fostering once his injuries have healed.
