The Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan says five other schools were built in a similar way to one which has been identified as a fire safety hazard.

It has emerged Rush and Lusk Educate Together national school in Co Dublin was in use for six years, before issues were highlighted and remedial works were carried out.

It was found that about €800,000 worth of work had to be carried out to bring it up to standard.

Ms O'Sullivan says the five others are being checked as a precaution.

"There were five other schools that were built at the time in the same kind of processes" she told Newstalk Lunchtime.

"So we are inspecting those schools - we have no reason to believe that problem exists there, but we're going to inspect them to make sure".

"Obviously the one in Rush and Lusk has been dealt with and funded, but we will be looking at the others as well" she added.

Minister O'Sullivan says this process should be completed soon.
