The prosecution of the five remaining Jobstown accused is set to be discontinued.

Solicitor Michael Finucane - who represents the five men - told Newstalk that he received a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions this afternoon confirming the move:

"The DPP has confirmed that A Nolle Prosequi is to be entered on the next court date in respect of the charges facing my clients," he said.

"Essentially that means the charges are being discontinued."

The case is next due before the courts on October 3rd.

Paul Murphy TD was one of six people acquitted of all charges of false imprisonment earlier this year.

A seventh man was earlier acquitted at the direction of the trial judge.

Deputy Murphy has called for a full independent investigation into the circumstances leading up to the prosecutions.
