One of the survivors of the Berkeley balcony collapse has begun to wake from an induced coma.
A statement of the 'Friends of Aoife Beary' Facebook page said the 21-year-old Aoife Beary remains in ICU but is no longer on the critical list. Beary has been in an induced coma since the incident on June 26, but has now reportedly begun waking and communicating with her parents.
Ms Beary, from Blackrock in Dublin, was celebrating her 21st birthday when the tragedy occurred.
The statement said:
"Aoife is still in the ICU but is no longer on the critical list.
"She has slowly started to awaken from the induced coma - this process is expected to take some time.
"Aoife has also started some communication with her parents and the medical team. She has had a tracheotomy within the last week and continues to make progress on her long road to recovery."
Six people died in the balcony collapse, with several more seriously injured.
