Apple’s new MacBook Pro featuring the Touch Bar interface has gone through its fair share of controversy since its unveiling.

With plenty of missing ports, a new keyboard design that many say isn’t up to scratch, and internal parts that aren’t exactly top of the line, what’s meant to be a professional computer is coming up short in many categories.

It now looks like it’s experiencing battery issues too.

Apple promised up to 10 hours battery life on both 13 and 15 inch models of the new MacBook, but a lot of users are claiming that they’re getting nowhere near that during regular, everyday use. Judging by the “time remaining” counter when you click the battery icon on the MacBook’s menu bar, users are getting nowhere near the time given.

Apple’s fix for the battery issues is now to completely remove the “time remaining” indicator from the MacBook Pro in an update to its MacOS Sierra operating system, leaving the battery percentage as the only way to guess how long you have left on battery.

Battery life indicators have been unreliable in computers for a long time, mainly because it’s difficult to exactly predict the amount of energy and power your computer will take up. You could go from simple web browsing to heavy duty video editing, forcing the computer to wildly recalculate how much battery it will use.

According to sources in Apple, the indicator was removed because it was simply “inaccurate”. The fix isn’t majorly improving the battery life of the computer, and is being seen more as a software trick rather than a fix in the Mac community.
