The Defence Forces say a suspicious package sent to the office of Environment Minister Alan Kelly in Tipperary is a hoax.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team was at the scene in Nenagh, following a request from An Garda Síochána.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team was called in to deal with a letter containing a suspicious material.

They arrived on scene at 12.40pm and following an examination, declared the letter and material a hoax.

The scene was declared safe at 1.30pm.

It is understood Minister Kelly was not in the office at the time.
