Fine Gael Councillor Noel French has further denied that TD Ray Butler was involved in a hit-and-run incident last night in Trim.

Mr French spoke to Lunchtime with Jonathan Healy today and stated the woman in question who claimed she was hit by the car, "hit the bumper and said 'I'm hit, I'm hit, I'm hit."

"She never fell to the ground. She ran up to the back of the car and hit herself off the bumper."

Mr French was also asked whether he and Mr Butler had taken alcohol to which he responded: "I do not drink and drive.

Ray Butler was at a meeting for two hours before this and there wasn't even a cup of tea at the meeting. Ray does not drink or drive either."

Ray Butler denied the allegations this morning. 

The Fine Gael TD spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning about two separate protests in Trim last night, one which took place outside of his home.

He described the protests last night as "scandalous" and denied the allegations that he hit the woman with his car, claiming that the woman jumped on the vehicle.

Mr Butler also denied any allegations that he had been drinking alcohol last night.

Gardaí this morning confirmed that the two protests took place in Trim last night.

The first protest was at about 9pm at Swift Court in the town, demonstrators were gone when Gardai arrived.

The second protest was reported at Finnegan's Way in the Town between 9.30pm and 9.50.

They stated: "Gardai are investigating a non serious road traffic collision at the second demonstration shortly before 10pm.

A woman was assessed at the scene by ambulance crew and afterwards was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda for further assessment.

Gardai are also investigating allegations of two minor assaults at the same event, one was reported by a juvenile female, and the other by a man.

There's no information on the number of people who attended either event."
