A new report has found one in four Irish adults (15-64 years old) have used cannabis.

It puts us slightly above the EU average of 23.3 per cent.

Analysis by the EU drugs agency also found that nearly 7 per cent of Irish people have taken cocaine in their lifetime.

Ecstasy use here is well above our European counterparts - 6.9 per cent of people admitted to having used it, compared with an EU average of 3.6 per cent.

Last year, 3.4 per cent of all deaths of Europeans aged between 15 and 39 years old were as a result of drug overdoses, with 66 per cent of fatal overdoses related to opioids.
