The man was taken to St James's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination, and another scene is also being examined where a car was discovered burnt out.

Partial road closures are in place:

Gardaí are appealing for information on the vehicle, which they believe was used in the shooting.

The silver/grey Mercedes Benz CLA, with the registration 161-D-26702, was stolen from the Navan Road area on June 23rd.

Speaking at a press conference this evening Superintendent Patrick McMenamin said there were at least two people involved. It is believed that there was one shooter and one person driving the car.

He said it is too early to speculate on the motive for the attack, and if it was connected to recent gangland feuds.

A hand gun was also recovered at the scene and is currently being examined.

Gardaí are now appealing for anyone with information to contact Kevin Street Garda Station on 01-6669400.
