A 91-year-old Polish woman has awoken in a morgue – 11 hours after being declared dead.

Janina Kolkiewicz woke up inside a body bag, inside a cold chamber, in the morgue in east Poland, according to the public broadcaster TVP.

“I was sure she was dead,” said doctor Wieslawa Czyz.

"I'm stunned, I don't understand what happened. Her heart had stopped beating, she was no longer breathing," she said.

When the woman, who suffers from late stage dementia, got home she asked for a cup of tea, according to Medical XPress. Her niece told a local newspaper:

"My aunt has no inkling of what happened since she has late-stage dementia.

"Once we got her home, she said she was freezing and asked for a hot cup of tea."
