A three-year old girl has died after sustaining fatal injuries in a crash on the M20 near Patrickswell, Co Limerick.

According to gardai, six casualties were taken by ambulance to hospital but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The two car collision occurred shortly before 5pm between Adare and Patrickswell. 

Garda forensic collision investigators are continuing to examine the scene. The stretch of motorway at the collision site remains closed in both directions and diversions are in place.
