72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo, a former police officer has been arrested in connection with the crimes.

Based on DNA evidence, law enforcement officials said they believe DeAngelo is the notorious East Area Rapist in Sacramento County and the Golden State Killer in Southern California, a mysterious, deft and unusually cruel serial assailant.
