Richie McCormack was joined by football writer Gavin Cooney on The Football Show this evening where the pair explored what’s next for Everton after the club recently sacked ex Chelsea player Frank Lampard.

Following their dismissal of Frank Lampard earlier this week Everton are back to the drawing board in terms of where their goals lie for this season.

With increased pressure on their owners, as well as more scrutiny on the subpar performances from the team itself football writer Gavin Cooney doesn’t have high hopes for the remainder of their Premier League campaign this year.

“The best case scenario is that they don’t go down, I mean they’re in huge trouble” he said.

“Maybe that was Lampard exacerbated and that the results were very poor, maybe a different manager gets slightly better results… but that’s the best case scenario now for them.”

Possible managerial replacements were then discussed, as well as what would draw someone to want to get involved at a club like Everton.

“People will still want the job…management is such a mad business, everyone involved in it has massive self believe so you’d admire anyone involved in it for that” Cooney said.

“They’ll all believe they can turn this around and if you look at it it’s a great club, you have a great atmosphere if it’s harnessed in the right way, massive tradition and a new stadium on the way.

“That’s all tempting in its own right and then there are only 20 Premier League jobs in the world…they’ll always find someone to do the job but its whether they can actually do the job when they’re there is another question” he concluded.
