Three-time major champion Pádraig Harrington says he wants to "sharpen up" his short game over the next two weeks in preparation for the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Antrim.

The 2020 European Ryder Cup captain led the field in Lahinch after the first round with a 63. However, two 73 rounds on Friday and Saturday saw him fall back from the rest of the field.

He finished up the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at the Clare golf club with a par 70. But, he could've finished higher if it weren't for a triple-bogey today, on the par-four 17th.

Speaking after the round, Harrington said, "I saw some good stuff. I putt it better today than I did in the two middle rounds, so that was nice.

"Still my short game is not very sharp, [I'm] not 100 percent sure why that is. Certainly, my short game needs to be looked at. [I] played the last couple of holes poorly, I don't know if I got tired or whatever - but I got a bit quick on a few shots. Besides that, it was a decent enough day, some positives going forward.

"I was happy with my putting this week. I seemed to strike a lot of good putts on day two and day three that didn't go in. I think I'm a lot more comfortable on this pace of green, for sure. It's been a nice week for challenging the hole with all my putts, so I feel good about that - so we'll see if we can sharpen up the short game over the next two weeks.

"I have another week next week, I'll just keep doing the same stuff I did this week. Hopefully, it will gradually improve and I keep improving and go in the right direction. No matter what as I said, I'll do it for the three weeks and see where I am after the three weeks.
