Investigators are in the process of identifying four people killed in a two-car collision on the M9 motorway on Sunday morning, with several others taken injured and in hospital.
The collision occurred between Junction 3 and Junction 4 on the M9 in Moone, Kildare, at approximately 3am on Sunday. The two cars understood to be involved are a BMW and a Hyundai.
It is believed that the BMW was driving the wrong way down the M9 and collided with another car carrying four people. Investigators are attempting to identify the deceased.

It is understood that the BMW had earlier failed to stop for gardaí and later made its way onto the motorway on the wrong side, with gardaí immediately told to stand down from engaging with the vehicle.
The four female occupants of the Hyundai car, including a 7-year-old girl, are understood to have been making their way to Dublin Airport and have all been hospitalised with critical and serious injuries.
Two women aged in their 30s found in the front seats of the Hyundai have been taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.
The rear seat passengers, a woman in her 20s and a seven-year-old girl, are being treated for serious injuries at St Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny and Children’s Health Ireland Crumlin, respectively.
The two women in critical condition and the 7-year-old child are all members of the same family.
The M9 motorway remains closed in both directions between Junction 3 and Junction 4.
Athy Garda Station has asked anyone who was travelling in the area between 2 and 3 am this morning to contact them. They are especially keen to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage.
