Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says goalkeeper Dean Henderson won't be going back out on loan for the second-half of the season.

Henderson has played only twice for United since returning from his two season stint at Sheffield United but was handed his England debut in last weekend's 3-0 friendly win against the Republic of Ireland.

Recent newspaper reports had suggested that the 23-year-old was keen to secure a loan deal away from Old Trafford in January in order to get first-team football ahead of the rescheduled European Championships next summer.

But Solskjaer insists that Henderson is determined to compete with David de Gea for a starting spot at United and that next week's EFL Cup quarter-final against Everton won't be his only chance between now and Christmas.

"Dean wants to stay at Manchester United and play for Manchester United," the Norwegian coach side ahead of their Champions League against Basaksehir.

"I can't see the logic in him playing only one game before Christmas. Do you know how many games we've got? So I disagree completely that Tuesday could be make or break for Dean.

"He has come back in, he is training really well, he is maturing. He is training with, for me, one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has got potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"It's a great competition between them, so I don't buy that argument that it is a make or break for him."
