The Government and Attorney General are considering the implications of a High Court ruling in relation to smear test screening.

Limerick woman Ruth Morrissey was awarded 2.1 million euro last week over the misreading of her smear test results.

The Judge also ruled that labs need to have ‘absolute confidence’ in a test result before giving it the all clear.

There are concerns that the ruling will undermine the country’s cancer screening programs.
