The Donegal fishing town of Killybegs is seriously worried about Brexit since the UK own vast amounts of fishing territories in the British Isles. Irish fishing boats landed €91 million worth of fish last year or 130,000 tonnes. Killybegs has a reliance on mackerel which makes up to 60% of their catch which they sell to Japan. They catch them in UK waters, up near the Shetland Islands.
After we move on from the Backstop, Fisheries will be the next big fight, since Britain have some of the best most plentiful fishing areas. In this Brexit Exclusive Henry McKean visited Killybegs County Donegal and sent us this report.
