The Department of Agriculture has been accused of "failures" in relation to the

treatment of horses that are being sent for slaughter at the country’s only licensed equine abattoir, which was the subject of an RTÉ Prime Time investigation last week.

Fianna Fáil TD James O'Connor was particularly critical following the revelation that the abattoir had received five welfare complaints since 2018.

All this has brought renewed attention to whether the industry is in receipt of too much public funding.

Joining Kieran to discuss is Aodhán Ó Riordáin , newly-elected Labour MEP for Dublin and Michael Healy Rae, Independent TD for Kerry.
