Permission has recently been granted for 3,500 new homes on Dublin's Poolbeg peninsula with 25% earmarked for social and affordable housing. However, The Poolbeg West SDZ is unusual because it contains a condition that the development must include at least 40 artists studios.
Well according to Green Party Councillor for Rathmines-Rathgar, Patrick Costello, rents are sky-rocketing making spaces unaffordable for many artists, but is this the right approach or should we be focused first and foremost on homes rather than artist studios. Patrick joined Ivan to outline his thoughts on the issue.
