Average speed cameras have gone live on a stretch of the country's motorway network on the M7 in Co Tipperary.

The average speed cameras are on a 9km stretch of the M7 between junction 26 Nenagh and junction 27 in Birdhill.

The average speed camera safety system monitors a driver’s average speed while driving between fixed points (Junction 26 and Junction 27) – in both directions on the M7 motorway.

If a vehicles average speed along the 9km stretch is then detected above the posted motorway speed limit of 120km/h the driver will be in violation and enforcement penalties will apply.

Our reporter Barry Whyte has been to Co Tipperary to see if locals think these cameras are a good idea...
