Hundreds of people will try and launch a political career in the local elections this month - while others might try and relaunch theirs if they failed to get elected five years ago.

Around 2-thousand candidates are in the race to fill 941 seats on the country’s 31 city and county councils.

Polling day is Friday the 24th of May.

Newstalk reporter Aideen Finnegan has been on the campaign trail in Cork South Central – where she’s been following first timers and an old hand.
