Minister Sean Canney has announced a public consultation on The Control of Dogs Act.

It goes back to 1998 and lists a number of restricted  breeds, and rules around their ownership and behaviours.

However with dog ownership in Ireland now at around 50%, is it time that the laws were updated to reflect the growing number of these animals likely to be in public places?

Companion animal vet Pete Wedderburn (aka Pete the Vet) gave his views on what dog controls are needed.
