A review is being carried out by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, and it seems there are a few talking points set to emerge.

One of the main talking points out of it is that there seems to be some thinking that the Irish language should be made optional, while there is also talk of Transition Year being scrapped as a year out, and some components being stretched over the senior cycle.

Ed Walsh, Founding President of the University of Limerick joined Richie Oakley on the Hard Shoulder to say why he believed compulsory Irish for the Leaving Cert has failed, and it being optional is the only sensible choice.
