In 2007 a tragic motorcycle accident left science writer Tim Requarth’s brother with irreversible brain damage and changed his life and the life of those around him forever.

The fallout from this incident formed the basis for Tim’s Best American Science & Nature Writing 2020 prize winning article “The Final Five Percent
