There has been calls to stop Cabinet ministers getting Garda drivers.
It comes as a woman was arrested in Northern Ireland following a security alert that led to Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney being evacuated from an event in Belfast last week. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, last year, recommended that all senior ministers should have Garda protection.
