Some people might think there is nothing better than to curl up with a cup of tea and a thousand-page book, but Sir Ian Rankin would disagree…

The bestselling Scottish crime fiction writer said there was “no necessity” for crime novels to be longer than 300 pages and that big books “get put at the bottom of the reading list”.
