As of today, the Hospitality VAT cut is in place, reducing the rate from 13.5%, down to 9%, for the sector. Over a 12-month period, this will cost the taxpayer close to two thirds of a billion euro.  

So should the government have gone ahead with it? Claire discusses this further with Sligo-based restauranteur, Anthony Gray and Economist at the Nevin Economic Research Institute, Ciarán Nugent.
