The election result in Meath West will be 'very straightforward', according to Newstalk Breakfast presenter Ivan Yates.

Sitting TDs: Damien English (FG), Ray Butler (FG), Peadar Tóibín (SF)

"Meath West is all about Navan... it's the decisive area," Ivan explained. "I was in Navan yesterday at the races, and my analysis of this constituency was verified by all the anecdotal chats I had with people.

"I'm suggesting that all three TDs will actually come from Navan," he added.

Meath West

Meath West is a three-seat constituency, unchanged from the last election.

All three sitting TDs are seeking re-election.

There are eight candidates in total.

Predicted Outcome

Yates is calling the result as one seat apiece for Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin.

1. Damien English (FG)

2. Peadar Tóibín (SF)

3. Shane Cassells (FF)

Fine Gael's Damien English is likely to top the poll, Ivan predicted, having 'consolidated his position' within the party.

"Labour aren't a factor in this constituency. The other safe TD is Peadar Tóibín for Sinn Féin," Ivan added.

He says Fine Gael's Ray Butler benefited from the 'swinging seat' last election - but that looks unlikely to be repeated.

"The guy who is going to win - mark it down, go into Paddy Power's today - because Shane Cassells is going to be a Fianna Fáil TD after the next election," Ivan confidently stated.
