Gardai say they have now identified the man whose body was found in a canal in County Kildare.

Detectives are to hold a media briefing on the breakthrough at Leixlip Garda Station this evening.

The remains of the man were found by youths walking along the waterway near Ardclough Village at the weekend.

Gardaí in Leixlip are leading the investigation, and earlier had said they believe the man may have been killed at a house party on Thursday night before being dismembered and dumped in the water.

It is believed a distressed woman went to gardaí in South West Dublin on Saturday afternoon with concerns that the victim was her partner.
