A man described as a senior figure in the IRA has been arrested in Spain in connection with alleged child sex abuse in Ireland.
The man is understood to be aged in his 60s and originally from Belfast.
It is believed he had lived in Dublin before moving to Spain.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a girl between 1991 and 1993, from when she was 9-years-old.
It is understood he will face four charges in connection with historic abuse allegations.
He is now in custody pending further proceedings.
