A man (54) remains in a serious condition after being shot a number of times in Cabra in North Dublin last night.
The incident happened on Killala Road at around 7.30pm.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was brought to the Mater Hospital.
Gardaí are treating the incident as attempted murder and witnesses are being asked to come forward.
Journalist Conor Feehan told Newstalk Breakfast that the victim is convicted drug dealer David Douglas.
He was seriously injured when: "a car drew up beside him and someone fired shots at him from the car, hitting him more than once".
Gardaí are looking for the car that was used, and are not clear on the motive behind the attack, Feehan has added.
It is thought the man will survive his injuries, though he is seriously ill.
The shooting has led to calls for increased Garda resources in Cabra.
