A senior Fine Gael acting Minister says everyone elected to the 32nd Dáil has a responsibly to contribute to the construction of a stable government.

The Dáil is due to sit again tomorrow, but a government will still not be formed.

It is expected there will be a Fine Gael led minority government, although both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are continuing talks with independents.

Speaking to LMFM in Dundalk today, Simon Coveney said he believes the electorate does not want to return to the polls.

"I think that would be a failure of the political system," he argued, adding that everybody who was elected has a responsibility to help form a stable government:

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny cut short his St Patrick's Day trip to Washington last week to hold a series of meetings in Dublin.

Independent Alliance TD Michael Fitzmaurice told Newstalk Breakfast any agreement is still some way off.

Independent TD Denis Naughtan says the main parties need to come together.
