Some €106m is being allocated to repair damage to transport infrastructure from the recent severe weather.
The funding is being provided to address the needs of local authorities across the country, after recent floods destroyed roads and bridges.
Funding was agreed with the Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin.
The Department of Transport will have lead responsibility for a works programme to deal with infrastructure repairs.
The department is in the process of reviewing estimates received from local authorities.
The funding will also include preventative works on key roads across the country.
Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe told Newstalk Breakfast the money will be made available immediately.
