While many parents choose to go with a well-established moniker or carry on a family tradition when giving their kids a name, other parents prefer to get a bit more creative.

The site Nameberry, which keeps a close eye on the data for baby names being researched as well as those officially given to kids, have crunched the numbers and found that there are some very odd names doing the rounds from 2014.

For boys, the names Harsh (18 kids were named this), Halo (22) and Jihad (28) have proven to be strangely popular, while the 28 boys named Alias may face a bit of trouble explaining their names in the future.

Other strange choices included Cypher (8), Awesome (8), Handsome (6), Boss (12) and Captain (26), but the 16 kids who are named Chief might end up very confused if they decided to visit Ireland at some stage in their lives.

For the females, only five of them will have to go through their lives with the name Eliminate, while Savvy (25), Godess (24) and Czarina (10) all feature on the list.

The world of fashion provided plenty of inspiration for parents in 2014, as designer names like Chanel, Armani or fabrics like Denim and Velvet appeared on the list, but only eight girls are to be known as Couture. Nine boys are to be named Stylez, with a 'z', in other news.

Other names given included Lucky (54 boys, 11 girls), Furious and Rage (5 boys each), Kindle (15 girls), Remedy (27 girls), Shanty (6 girls) and Zeppelin (42 boys and 11 girls), while Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards) shot up to the be the 65th most popular name.
