Broadcaster Pamela Flood is 24 weeks pregnant with her third child. There has some controversy about her pregnancy however, following some comments she made on a recent radio interview.

Pamela, who announced her pregnancy when she was 43 and has since celebrated her 44th birthday, joined Colette Fitzpatrick to discuss the 'backlash', as well as her lifestyle while expecting baby number three.

"Generally the feedback was very good and it was all very nice, and I was delighted with myself," Pamela explained. "I'm pretty sure what blew up a few weeks ago... was more retaliation. People thought I was slagging off 30-year-olds, or thirty somethings.

"What I said was, in a live radio interview... I'm in a really good place in my life healthwise... compared to say when you're thirty. This was my hypothetical example of a thirty year old, a person, not the whole [group]. It was an extreme comparison to say I don't think what I'm doing is selfish or irresponsible."

Pamela said she believes most people who heard the interview understood her point, although perhaps some did have an issue with her becoming an older mother. However she feels some of those who just read quotes on social media had a much more negative response.

"I think there's a certain mentality out there in social media land - they just want to jump on the hate train and they ain't getting off 'til they draw blood... the keyboard warriors," she pointed out.

Pamela did agree that there are some situations where some women may be too old, citing the example of a 65-year-old German woman who recently made the news after giving birth to quadruplets. However she believes each case should be looked at on its own merits.

"No two bodies are the same. No two brains are the same," she suggested. "You can't say that having a baby at 44 or 46 or 47 is too old, because we don't know when we're going to die."

Pamela also told Colette about her lifestyle at the moment, and also discussed her experiences with pre-natal testing.

As for a fourth baby? "I wish I met Ronan earlier," she said, suggesting they would have definitely had more children in that case. "I think I've got to be aware of my strengths and my weaknesses... even with two little people [and a stepson] it's a lovely level of chaotic... But I love the madness." She would did not rule out a fourth outright, though!
