Few musicians are as unfairly maligned as Ringo Starr. Though no one would call him a bad drummer, he has over the decades become known as the lesser of the four Beatles.

However, John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono has come to his defense, stating that he is in fact the "most influential" member of the band.

NME reports that along with Paul McCartney, Ono spoke at Starr's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday. He was the last member of the group to be inducted as a solo artist.

"No one is probably going to believe it but he was the most influential Beatle," she said Ono.

"For some reason John got it, then George got it, then Paul got it.

"So why didn't they think about Ringo?"

That's a question he's been asked often, apparently. And he responded during his acceptance speech:

"You know, it's a great honour to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I was doing the press and they're all saying, 'Well, why did you wait so long?' It has nothing to do with me.

"You have to be invited. But anyway, apparently I'm invited and I love it."

Also joining Starr in the Class of 2015 were Lou Reed, Joan Jett, Green Day, Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the "5" Royales.
