The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is maintaining contact with an Irish citizen about a possible evacuation from Yemen.

The dual Irish-Yemeni citizen remains in the country, despite the escalation in battles between government and rebel forces.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it was maintaining contact with the citizen through its embassy in Saudi Arabia - and discussing options for a potential evacuation.

A separate Irish citizen was among 200 foreign nationals evacuated from Yemen's second city, Aden, last week.
