A Wexford (25) woman who suffered serious head injuries in a drunken hit and run, is to receive €1.2 million damages in a High Court settlement.

Laura Byrne from New Ross was one of several pedestrians hit by a car at John Street in June 2009.

She has been left brain damaged as a result of the crash caused by an uninsured drunk driver who failed to stop at the scene.

He was jailed for two and a half years for dangerous driving.
