A woman in her early 70s has died following a house fire in county Galway.

Gardai were alerted to the blaze at a house on Camp Street in Oughterard at around 12.30 this afternoon.

Emergency services attended the scene and the body of a woman was removed to the morgue in University Hospital Galway.

There was no one else in the house at the time of the fire.

The property has been preserved for a technical examination.
