A woman in her 70's has died in a house fire in Cavan Town.

Neighbours raised the alarm shortly after 2pm this afternoon when the fire was spotted at a house in Church Street.

The woman's remains have been taken to Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem will be conducted.

A technical examination of the scene will be carried out later.
