Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian aged in her 50s died after being hit by a car in Co Mayo.

It happened on the N5 at Bohola at about 7:30pm yesterday evening.

The car was travelling towards Swinford. The male driver of the car was not injured.

The road at the scene remained closed overnight.
