A woman in her 20s has died after being hit by a car in Co Kerry.

At around 7.15pm yesterday evening, the 26-year-old pedestrian was knocked down on the N22 at Glenflesk village.

She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The woman's body was removed to University Hospital Kerry, where a post mortem examination will take place.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate a Garda forensic examination, but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-667-1160 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
