A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault in Limerick City.

The arrest follows the discovery of a man with serious head injuries behind an apartment block on Knock Hill in the Ennis Road area of the city.

The man - who is 26 - was rushed to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick.

He was later transferred to Cork University Hospital where he's understood to be in a critical condition.
