A woman has admitted accidentally stabbing an 18-month-old girl during a fight with her mother. Shauna Kinsella, of no fixed abode, had been drinking in a Dublin pub for several hours before the attack.

The victims of this attack cannot be named to protect the toddler's identity, but the court heard how the drama unfolded in her parents home on February 2nd in 2012.

Kinsella had been drinking a nearby pub with her sister, two other men and the girls parents. The girl, who was just 18-months-old at the time, was also with them.

Later the gang continued drinking at the parents home while the toddler slept upstairs with her father. A fight broke out and the girl's father came racing downstairs with the girl in his arms.

He handed her to her mother who told gardai that she was attacked and stabbed in the stomach while she held her. The court heard how she only realised her daughter had been injured when she lay her down in her cot.

She had a cut to her cheek and an injury to her forehead, while her mother was treated for stab wounds to the stomach, chest, arm and scalp.

Kinsella admitted carrying out the attacks and has been remanded in custody pending sentence next April.
