The Irish music festival season is already gearing up and many of the line-ups are looking great so far.

With Electric Picnic promoters set to release their 2014 line-up later this month, we are taking a look at some Ireland's music festivals this year.

Barn Dance – April 18th

One of the very first mini festivals of the season kicks off on Good Friday at a secret location. On one of the only days in Ireland alcohol can’t be purchased, you can bring your own beer to ‘Barn Dance’.

The one day festival is held in a secret location 45 minutes outside Dublin. Headliners are Jamie Jones, Fritz Kalkbrenner and college favourites Hermitage Green.

The event isn’t just live acts though with it also boasts artisan dining experiences, art installations, comedy and theatre.

Tickets for the day come in at €60 plus an additional €18 of €13 depending if you get the train or the bus from Dublin.

Life Festival - May 23rd-25th

Groove Armada (DJ set) and Four Tet are headlining this year’s electronic weekend festival. This ever-growing festival is looking impressive this year. Hosted on the grounds of Belvedere House in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, the festival is a haven for those who love the electronic genre.

Being one of the first festivals out of the block this year gives this one an advantage for those whose last festival came at the end of last summer.

Currently tickets go for €139 plus booking fee for weekend camping.

Forbidden Fruit – May 31st – June 1st

Taking place on the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham near Dublin City centre and serviced by the Luas is one of the easiest festivals to get to. There is no word on who will be playing yet this year, however, Kasabian and Primal Scream headlined in 2013.

Early bird tickets go on sale on Monday March 10th - coming in at €49.50 each for either day.

Body and Soul – June 20th-22nd

The summer solstice festival on the grounds of Ballinlough Castle

Goldfrapp, Caribou and Darkside headline however, the festival organiser pride themselves with creating an experience rather than drawing crowds with big names

The festival has sold-out in the last four years and has seen much critical success. It was  voted ’Best Small Festival 2011′, with the 2010 festival winning both ‘Best New Festival’ and ‘Social Responsibility Award’ at the Irish Festival Awards.

Tickets for weekend camping comes in at €129.50

Longitude – July 18th-20th

Longtitude is the sister festival of the UKs Latitude. This Marley Park festival just announced its line-up which includes Massive Attack, Disclosure who were a huge hit at Electric Picnic last year and Bastille who impressed at Glastonbury in 2013; each are all playing separate days. Singer songwriter Ben Howard will also be playing.

The three day weekend pass comes in at €149.50 but there is no camping. – Day tickets are €59.50

Oxegen - unknown dates (August 2, 3 and 4 in 2013)

Oxegen has moved away from its indie roots and even last year adopted the slogan ‘It’s Time To Dance’.

The Punchestown festival once ruling the roost of Irish festivals for its drawing power with big name acts. However, revellers were left disappointed in 2012 when the event took a year hiatus only to come back last year with a notable deviation form its rock and indie roots. Instead, the festival focused more on dance acts, including headliners Calvin Harris and David Gueta. However, tickets were notably cheaper coming in at €149.50 for weekend camping. Hopefully the 2014 line-up will expand the its reach.

MCD have made no announcements yet on Oxegen 2014.

Electric Picnic - August 29th- 31st

The Electric Picnic blew everyone away last year, propelling it to new heights while staying true to its roots. The festival promoters have told Newstalk that they are set to announce the initial line up later this month. The festival celebrated its first 10 years last year by promising another 10 years of festivals.

With such a diverse line-up and major performers such as Arctic Monkeys, Bjork and Robert Plant all gracing Stradbally, Co Laois, it will be a difficult task for the organisers to top it in 2014.

While ticket prices haven’t been announced yet last year’s weekend tickets came in at €229.50 after July, however, if you proved you’d been once before you could get your hands on a ticket for €189.50.

Let us know which festival you’re most looking forward to in the poll below.
