Alan O'Reilly, outgoing head of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, spoke to the Right Hook today about his tenure, food fraud, food labelling, and the reputation of Ireland’s food.
A report from the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) released earlier this week, which said a pork survey found non-Irish products being sold as Irish.
The organisation tested 91 products in December and found 29% had DNA that was not from the Irish database.
Of the 26 products that were not Irish, 40% were loin chops and 44% were back rashers.
Similar previous tests revealed that over 50% of the products sampled were not assigned to the Irish boar database.
